The artist Philipp Otto Runge

Philipp Otto Runge (1777-1810), who is considered the founder of Romanticism along with Caspar David Friedrich, is one of the most versatile artists of the 19th century. Runge's most important work was already created at the end of 1802 / beginning of 1803, the four-part graphic cycle of "Times", which allegorizes the change of day, year and world times with its complex structure of arabesques. Runge was also inspired by the vision of uniting the arts of poetry, painting, music and architecture in a total work of art and thus broke new artistic ground.
