Karl Larsson, who was born in Kristianstad (Sweden) in 1977, is an artist, poet and writer. He studied at Konstfack/University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm from 2000 to 2005, has taught at a number of art schools and was a research fellow at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht from 2009 to 2011. Larsson currently lives and works in Brussels and Stockholm. He is particularly interested in the intersection of visual art and poetry, whereby he frequently challenges the role of the viewer/reader. In numerous exhibitions, among others at Moderna Museet in Stockholm and Neuer Aachener Kunstverein (both 2010), Larsson has examined this issue in relation to sculptures and art objects. In his book Form/Force, which was published in a German translation by Walther König Verlag in April 2013 and is scheduled for publication in English by Black Square Editions later this year, Larsson’s thoughts and observations on various cultural, political and historical events are conveyed in an associative, poetic form.
During his time in Hamburg Larsson is planning to work on a new project entitled Sphinx. While it is primarily a book project on the principle of semantic and comparative deconstruction, Sphinx also includes a series of sculptures that will be created during the writing process. As in his previous projects, accompanying seminars and interventions will take place in collaboration with other artists and writers.
